They discussed how expungement of marijuana-related convictions will now make our communities safer.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights:<\/p>\n<p>Steven Scharboneau, Jr. is an attorney with the Rosenstein Law Group and a AFSC-AZ #ReFraming Justice Leader.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cArizona is one of the only states where a drug conviction for marijuana is a felony conviction, so it has life-lasting implications,&#8221; Scharboneau said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arc-ad | text-center article-inline-ad bg-light py-3 px-3-sm d-flex flex-column mt-3 mb-3 justify-content-center ad-type-flex-leaderboard\">\n<div class=\"arc-ad-wrapper | d-flex flex-column\">Scharboneau said he knows what it is like to have a felony on your record.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI have a felony conviction that will never go away. To go through the process to become an attorney to go through the character and fitness process, I had to go through a four-hour hearing with a panel,&#8221; Scharboneau said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Adam Trenk is a Rose Law Group\u00a0partner and director of the firm\u2019s cannabis law department.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI think it\u2019s really a big deal and a really big step for our state,&#8221; Trenk said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arc-ad | text-center article-inline-ad bg-light py-3 px-3-sm d-flex flex-column mt-3 mb-3 justify-content-center ad-type-flex-leaderboard\">\n<div class=\"arc-ad-wrapper | d-flex flex-column\">Trenk said Prop 207 is really the first of its kind.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cHistorically we would, we being the state\u2019s court systems, would seal records, but they wouldn\u2019t necessarily expunge records,&#8221; Trenk said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Starting July 12, 2021, people previously convicted of select marijuana offenses can petition to have their records expunged.
